What are energy crystals?:
I am going to try my best to explain this the simplest way possible without using too much geological terms. Crystals are formations of atoms and molecules that are formed/ arranged/ “grown”. Their formation is determined by the minerals or components that they are made from and they come in many different shapes and sizes. The famous Albert Einstein and other transformational scientists have said that “Everything is energy.” Spiritual scholars believe that the earth is made up of elements that fall in either of the two categories- spirit or matter, both of which are essentially energy. I will explain this later on for you in relation to what we are talking about here.
What are some examples of crystals?
A common example of a crystal is salt. Salt is a cubed-shaped crystal that is formed when sodium and chloride come together. The gemstones or crystal gemstones that we are talking about today are formed in the earth in where earth’s temperature and pressure together with the liquid and mineral components in the earth. When the liquids cool and start to harden, crystals are formed. This process can take millions of years for crystals to form. The gemstones made in labs are under mimicking these conditions in metal cylinders.
In your area of work, what is your understanding of crystals?:
Crystals may be considered new age for those who are new to the literature or due to the fact that they may be growing increasingly popular, but they have in fact been around for centuries. Their spiritual use is no new news. The ten commandments were written in black onyx, Hindus use gems to ease the mal effects of planetary influences on the person. In Islam, a tradition states that Ali used to wear four rings on his hand - opal for beauty and dignity; turquoise for obtaining divine help and victory; iron for strength, and carnelian for protection from enemies and all types of misfortunes.
Much of those who do not understand crystals may refer to them as “simmy dimmy”. But they are common across the board for their own reasons. For some they make vibesy ornaments, for others they are classy jewelry statement pieces and for others they have energy purposes.
How do they work metaphysically?
My understanding of crystals is that they have energy properties - like water, like sound, like any object, they are all energy. When you listen to different types of music, they put you in different moods because the frequencies of them differ. Water for instance, is used in most ceremonial practices across cultures and religions because they carry memory. They absorb energies and are considered to be one of the simplest ingredients to use in any ritual. Holy water has a holy energy, because it was prayed on. Some kids have a favorite blanket that they move around with because it gives them some degree of comfort. They attach themselves to the comforting energy of the blanket. Sometimes when we lose a loved one, we hold possession of something they once owned because their energy is still on it. Sometimes you may feel uncomfortable in a place because the energy there puts you in much discomfort or because you are not resonating with the energy there. These are just some instances of how we feel energy.
Similarly, crystals carry energy properties and can absorb and repel energies. The intention that you put into it is what will help it to work for you. Intentions are energy. People or empaths who are very sensitive to energies can hold a crystal in their hand and feel the pulse. I’ve experimented with crystals for myself in the and noticed how they affected my mood.
In your experience, why do people purchase crystals?
I see myself in people when they say “WOW this is beautiful” because I am always fascinated by the appearance of crystals. They are used widely for their ascetics as they add vibes to any space.
Astrologers, and some pundits can recommend gems as they are very useful in easing the effects of “grahas” or the astrological planetary effects on the person. Like the sun, planets also have radiation that affect us. This is how we become affected by planets when we speak of astrology. Each human being is made up differently. Though very similar, we still have varying degrees of mineral make up that react differently to planetary radiation. If you are a geologist or gemologist at heart, then your collection would look like mine with different mineral combinations. Geology students go crazy when they see our large specimens. Imagine walking into a space and seeing all of the different mineral combinations that you have only read about in a text book!
Some people purchase crystals because they feel very drawn to them. Crystal shopping is a different kind of shopping for those who are solely into it for the energy. They do not pick crystals based on appearance. They purchase them based on how they feel when they hold it in their hand or because they feel drawn to a particular piece. I’ve heard people say before that “this is not a very attractive crystal, but I feel very compelled to buy it” I’ve also had first time customers walk in and say things like “I had a dream with a stone that looks like xyz” and then a couple minutes after browsing they say “This is it, it actually exists!”
Is this a science or all in your head when it comes to crystals?
It is anything you want it to be. We all believed that the earth was flat once upon a time until a body of scientists said it was not. The Hindu culture believed in the influence of 9 planets before NASA or any space study was even around. Then what does this say? It means that what we know as truth is always subject to inquiry, subject to approval from some sort of prestigious body, it is subject to our own personal experience, and is definitely subject to to change. However you want to look at it, how you perceive anything in this world is what you are told, what you know, what you feel, and how you choose to make sense of it. It is all in your perception.
I’ve heard comments where very religious people have made comments about crystals as being a sin or unholy. But they religiously believe in their everyday consuming medicine and pharmaceuticals. Again it’s all in your head. If you are highly religious, whatever it is that you are consuming to become better will essentially be paired with a prayer and belief that it will work. This is human nature, we will always look for something outside ourselves to help us- be it people or things.
What are some other uses of crystals?:
Many of the first radios ever invented used crystals to transmit the radio waves. Some watches, like quartz watches, still use crystals to this day. The fluorite crystal is the same mineral that is used in water, glue and ceramics. Selenite is used in thermal conductivity, and for dried walls.
Stibnite is used in fireworks, rubber and glass making.
The more you learn about crystals and their uses, the more you will be intrigued by them. I am personally fascinated by all the uses of them- in medicine, in energy work, in industrial production and by its beauty. Nature is really generous and amazing.
